Smylie had his screen debut at the tender age of 6 years old in the popular crime series Wisting. Soon after he landed his second TV series Insomnia alongside British actress Vicky McClure and Tom Cullen, who played Smylie's parents. Smylie can be seen in the TV series thriller The Crow Girl playing Martin along with Eve Myles, Dougray Scott and Katherine Kelly. He then flew to Dubai where he filmed for a worldwide commercial for Etihad and Warner Brothers as the lead role Joker. In 2024 Smylie started filming for the film Hamnet, directed by Chloe Zhao, starring Paul Mescal and Jessie Buckley. Smylie plays the role of Young Bartholomew.
