    Plot Summary

    • A brother and sister meet up in a diner, armed with rifles, where he's ordered them both the special, and tells her to eat it, despite her not liking onions, as they won't have another meal like this for a while. It is revealed that they (off-screen, prior to start of film) have amateurishly knocked off some banks to erase her debts, and that she's got a daughter she can only leave for two weeks, while they're on the run. Sirens are heard, so they take off, not taking sandwiches with. They run to the woods, where a campsite seems incongruent to her, for whatever unknown reason, but they ignore it and run through a cornfield. They emerge near the farm's homestead, and head into the house, to 'lay low' while the cops forget about the bank robberies. However, there are hoodlums outside the house, so they fire warning shots and scare them off. Once inside, sirens are heard again, so Joseph's (the brother's) plan is revealed. They'll time travel/or to another dimension for two weeks, in the house, which belongs to a client of his, and then go back to Sydney's (sister's) daughter, 'Steph'. They set the old grandfather clocks to a time scrawled in a notebook he has, head into a cupboard/closet on the second floor, and emerge in an alternate dimension. The house is stocked, and for the first two weeks, the siblings catch up, discuss their past, drink whiskey from a never-ending supply and eat what's replenished in the magic fridge. But the time passes and the cupboard/clocks don't allow them to return home. A warning comes in the form of a woodcutting - go to the church/barn and look in the safe. They find a tape recorder enabling them to speak with their captors, who have them 'in a vise' of sorts. The voice instructs them to kill an intruder, who does not belong there, but gives no further information on the nature of the intruder or when they'll arrive. IF they succeed in this, they will be allowed to return home. Syd and Joseph take turns on lookout, with rifles, on the porch, and a year passes. They become frustrated with the situation, and are not as prepared as they could be when the intruder finally arrives, fully covered, including a full face mask, and begins shooting at them. They shoot back and miss, but the intruder gets one in and drags Joseph to the church, writing down in a notebook that Joseph should speak for them, via the tape recorder, to their captors. Joseph lies and says that he's killed the intruder, but the captors aren't fooled. They set up a second safe in the house, near the closet, so that Syd, who is wounded, can come rescue Joseph and shoot the intruder. She heads to the church, the intruder flees, Syd pursues, and back at the house they struggle. The intruder is revealed to be an adult 'Steph', with facial scars, which look like they could have been inflicted with the antique fish hook weapon Syd is currently attacking her with. Shocked, Syd steps in front of the-now re-masked 'Steph' as Joseph enters and shoots, killing Syd, without Joseph learning the intruder's identity. Joseph is taken to a mysterious black hole/office like room, where two office employees explain he is about to be wiped, as he and Syd failed to eliminate the intruder. Joseph begs for another opportunity, despite the fact that he's wounded, and they give it to him, but say after he leaves that maybe he'll be the first one to break the cycle. They tell him he'll need to also eliminate 'the redundancy'. He's suddenly back in the forest by the campsite, where he sees current-day Joseph, who has yet to even go to the diner. Joseph prime kills the redundancy and hobbles to the diner, paying two hundred bucks to the waitress to ignore his rifle and disheveled appearance, and she brings out the specials again. But when Syd shows up she doesn't recognize her brother, as he's gone through this same cycle for so many years, he is now an older man. He tells her to shoot him in the face, leave the money behind, and run after Steph. She sees his tattoo, one they both share, and decides to do as he says. THE END. If this seems like it couldn't possibly be the actual ending, go ahead and watch; you have been warned.
