Plot Summary

• 3 years on from the events of the first film, Moana goes out exploring new islands, in a bid to discover others like her who are also connected to the ocean.One fateful day, Moana receives a vision from her ancestor named Tautai Vasa, who tells her that there is a storm god called Nalo who desires to have power over all mortals and so people have since grown detached from the ocean. Nalo sinks a magic island called Motufetu to the bottom of the ocean. She then goes on to tell her that her island will become deserted if she doesn't find a way to raise the island once more. Moana gathers together Loto, Moni and Keke alongside her pig Pua and Rooster Heihei and they head off in search of the Montufetu.Maui is in search of Montufetu himself as he had previously had a quarrel with Nalo, but is captured by Matangi (Nalos enforcer). Maui considers contacting Moana for help but decides against it in case he put her life in jeopardy.Meanwhile, Moana and the gang meet Kakamora, a bunch of coconut-like pirates who reveal that Nalo sinking Motufetu had disconnected them from their home. Kotu helps them to paralyze a giagantic clam which helps them reach Matangis lair. The rest of the group go and find Maui, whilst Moana goes to find Mantangi and she reveals that she isn't happy serving Nalo, so she helps Moana escape, using a different method and she and Maui reunite. Matangi then sends the gang to meet Nalo.Maui announces that Nalos realm is more deadly than the mortal realm. The group find themselves ambushed, before ending up back on the sandy shore on an isolated island. Moana begins to feel dejected, but Maui encourages her to continue going, so the gang come up with a plan to have Maui raise the island and have Moana touch it as it is the only way they can restore the power. The rest of the gang repair the destroyed raft and they sail off to defeat Nalo. Whilst Nalo attacks them, Moana discovers Nalos fear of humans touching the island and ultimately breaking the curse.Nalo strips Maui of his godhood and this forces Moana to go under water and touch the bottom of Montufetu, but is killed by Nalos power. With the assistance of Moanas ancestors, Maui jumps in and manages to revive her. In the process, Moana gains a wayfinders tattoo and Maui becomes a god once again. Maui proceeds to use his powers to raise Montufetu out of the water, reconnecting the people with the ocean.Moana returns to her home island and a celebration is planned in her honor. As the credits roll, Nalo is about to punish Matangi for helping the gang, when they are visited by Tamatoa who plans to join them in their quest for revenge against Moana for what she had done to him in the first film.

Storyline

• After receiving an unexpected call from her wayfinding ancestors, Moana must journey to the far seas of Oceania and into dangerous, long-lost waters for an adventure unlike anything she's ever faced.
