Storyline

In furthest regions of space the kingdom of Eternia is threatened by the villainous Skeletor and his mischievous armies of darkness. It spent 17 years in development hell and burned through $30 million at Netflix alone. The project was announced at Sony in 2009 and cycled through directors including Jon M. Chu, McG, David S. Goyer, and the Nee Brothers, with Noah Centineo and later Kyle Allen attached as He-Man. Netflix acquired the rights in 2022, spent $30 million on development, then cancelled the film in 2023 for budgetary reasons before Amazon MGM finally rescued it.

Over a dozen writers left their fingerprints on the script. The final film credits "screenplay by" Chris Butler, the Nee Brothers, and David Callaham; "story by" the Nees and Mike Finch & Alex Litvak; and "additional literary material" from an astonishing roster including Lindsey Beer, Will Beall, Peter Craig, 1987 Masters of the Universe writer David Odell, Terry Rossio, McG, David S.
