Plot Summary

• Billions of years before the Earth was formed, a group of beings (a race of immortals) called the Guardians of the Universe used the emerald essence of willpower to create an intergalactic police force called the Green Lantern Corps. The corps was located on the planet Oa from where the Guardians could watch over all of existence.They split the universe into 3,600 sectors, with one Green Lantern per sector. A ring powered by the energy of willpower was sent to every sector to select a recruit. To be chosen, one had to be without fear. One such Green Lantern, Abin Sur (Temuera Morrison) of Sector 2814, defeated the fear-essence being Parallax (Clancy Brown) and imprisoned him in the Lost Sector on the ruined planet Ryut.In the present day, Parallax escapes from his prison after becoming strengthened by an encounter with crash survivors who had accidentally fallen into the dugout where he was imprisoned on an abandoned planet. Parallax feeds on their fear (and eventually sucks out their life force itself) to gain strength.Six months later, after killing four Green Lanterns and destroying two planets, Parallax attacks Sector 2814 and mortally wounds Abin Sur (who was on his way to evacuate the residents of the planets), who escapes and crash-lands on Earth. Before escaping, Abin Sur takes a blow of Yellow Energy from Parallax into his chest, which wounds him. The dying Abin Sur commands his ring to find a worthy successor on the planet.Ferris Aircraft test pilot Hal Jordan (Ryan Reynolds) is fired from his job when he defeats the new ultra-high-performance UAV Sabers (A plane flown by Artificial Intelligence) with his regular F35 & cost the company a big fat contract with the Air Force. Jordan flies outside of the mission parameters and breaches the ceiling of 50,000 feet as the Sabers stall at that altitude. Jordan's own plane also stalls, but he manages to shoot down both UAVs during his free-fall back to the surface. Thomas Kalmaku (Taika Waititi) is an Inuit engineer at Ferris Aircraft.Not only that, but Jordan also crashed his F35 when the engines stalled & Jordan choked up over the death of his father, who was a test pilot himself & died a fiery death in a plane crash. Carol Ferris (Blake Lively) is the co-owner of the company Ferris Aircraft (which is owns alongside her father Carl Ferris (Jay O'Sanders), a test pilot herself & Jordan's girlfriend & she is very disappointed with Jordan. Carol knows that Jordan choked in the cockpit.Jordan is in touch with his brother Jims (Nick Jandl) & Jack (Mike Doyle) and Jack's wife Janice (Leanne Cochran), and care about their son Jason (Dylan James). Jordan is chosen by the ring and transported to the crash site, where Abin Sur appoints him a Green Lantern, by telling him to take the lantern and speak the oath. Abin Sur then dies & Jordan has to escape as government planes approach the alien spacecraft crash site. At home Jordan says the oath of the Green Lanterns while under trance from the glow of the lantern.After he gets attacked while leaving a bar Jordan swings to punch one of his attackers, letting out a huge fist of green energy. Afterwards Jordan is whisked away to the Green Lantern Corps home planet of Oa, where he meets and trains with Tomar-Re (Geoffrey Rush) and Kilowog (Michael Clarke Duncan). He encounters Corps leader Sinestro (Mark Strong), who is not pleased that a human which is primitive compared to other species has become a Green Lantern. With Sinestro seeing him as unfit and fearful, Jordan quits and returns to Earth, keeping the power ring and lantern.Meanwhile, after being summoned by his father Senator Robert Hammond (Tim Robbins) to a secret government facility, scientist Hector Hammond (Peter Sarsgaard) performs an autopsy on Abin Sur's body under the watchful eye of Amanda Waller (Angela Bassett) a former congressional aide and government agent. A piece of Parallax inside the corpse inserts itself inside Hammond, mutating the scientist and giving him telepathy and telekinetic powers, at the cost of his sanity.After discovering that he was only chosen due to his father's influence, Hammond resentfully attempts to kill his father by Telekinetically sabotaging his helicopter at a party. However, Jordan uses his ring to save the senator and the party guests, including his childhood sweetheart, and fellow test pilot Carol Ferris.The following night, Hal visits Carol's home in costume, but she immediately recognizes him after getting a closer look. Then they spend a peaceful time together. However, Carol becomes saddened after learning that Hal quit the Corps. Later, at the government facility, Hector elevates Waller high above the floor. As she is falling, Hal arrives and saves the injured Waller by creating a pool of water which whisks her away out of further danger. Hector then uses his telekinesis to incinerate his father. During the encounter, Hal Telepathically connects with Hector and learns of Parallax coming to Earth before Hammond escapes.Back on Oa, the Guardians tell Sinestro that Parallax was once one of their own, until he desired to control the yellow essence of fear, only to become the embodiment of fear itself. Believing the only means to fight fear is by fear itself, Sinestro requests for the Guardians to forge a ring of the same yellow power, preparing to concede Earth's destruction to Parallax in order to protect Oa. However, Jordan appears and tells Sinestro not to use the yellow ring and for the Corps to help him protect his planet from Parallax's imminent invasion. They deny his request but allow Jordan to return and protect his home planet.Upon returning to Earth, Jordan saves Ferris from being injected with Parallax's essence by Hammond. Parallax then arrives, consuming Hector's life force for failing to kill Jordan, and then wreaking havoc on Coast City.Jordan lures Parallax away from Earth and toward the Sun, using the Sun's gravity to pull and disintegrate the entity. He loses consciousness after the battle, but is saved by Sinestro, Kilowog, and Tomar-Re. Later the entire Green Lantern Corps congratulates him for his bravery. Sinestro tells Jordan he now bears the responsibility of protecting his sector as a Green Lantern.Hal and Carol spend one last time together, and he tells her that he'll be away for a while. The two share a kiss and he flies away. Sinestro takes the yellow ring and places it on his finger, causing his green suit and eyes to turn yellow.

Storyline

• In a mysterious universe, the Green Lantern Corps, an elite defense force of peace and justice have existed for centuries. Reckless test pilot Hal Jordan acquires superhuman powers when he is chosen by the Ring, the willpower-fed source of power. Reluctantly at first, he takes on the challenge after the death of Abin Sur, the finest Green Lantern. Putting his self-doubts aside, and spurred on by his sense of duty and love for his beautiful, intellectually equal, colleague, Carol Ferris, he is soon called to defend mankind from Parallax, a powerful, evil being who feeds on fear. Hal Jordan is the universe's last chance, as many Green Lanterns have been killed and the Corps is weakened, and he might just be the right Green Lantern for the duty of keeping the world safe from harm. — Production The Guardians of the Universe have divided the universe into 3,600 space sectors, each one protected by one powerful Green Lantern, selected among fearless beings and supplied by a ring fed by the willpower from the planet Oa. When the evil force Parallax that is fed by fear destroys several Green Lanterns, Abin Sur flees in his spacecraft but crashes on Earth. Mortally wounded, his green ring seeks out a successor for him and finds the reckless but efficient test pilot Hal Jordan. Hal Jordan learns about the Green Lanterns and is bestowed with the powers of the ring. Meanwhile, scientist Hector Hammond is summoned to conduct an autopsy of Abin Sur and is possessed by Parallax. Hal Jordan is insecure about his fears and uses his powers for the first time in a party to save the life of people from a Ferris Aircraft helicopter damaged by Hector and later he discloses his identity to his former colleague Carol Ferris, who is the beautiful daughter of Carl Ferris and his love. When Parallax threatens Earth, the Green Lantern Hal Jordan is the last hope to defend his planet from destruction. — Warner Bros. Pictures
