Plot Summary

• G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra is a 2009 American military science-fiction action film directed by Stephen Sommers and written by Stuart Beattie, David Elliot, and Paul Lovett. Based on the classic Hasbro toy line and comic series, it is the first installment in the G.I. Joe live-action film series.  The story follows U.S. Army soldiers Conrad “Duke” Hauser (Channing Tatum) and Wallace “Ripcord” Weems (Marlon Wayans), who are pulled into a secret fight against the nefarious Cobra organization after a convoy attack leaves them questioning their place in the world of elite operatives. Recruited into the G.I. Joe team — which includes tech-savvy Scarlett, commando Snake Eyes, and heavy weapons expert Heavy Duty — they face weapons designer James McCullen, aka Destro, and the mysterious Baroness, as Cobra plots to unleash nanomite-based weapons on major cities.  Filmed across locations including the United States, France, and the Czech Republic, the movie delivers globe-trotting set pieces, advanced military tech, and stylized combat, backed by Alan Silvestri’s dynamic score. Released on August 7, 2009, the film grossed over $302 million worldwide on a $175 million budget, launching a franchise that continued with G.I.
