    Storyline

    • Recognized director and filmmaker Justin LePera embarked on his fifth feature sports documentary again with former Husker players Mark Brungardt and Josh Davis to tell the story of one of the greatest sports teams ever. Brungardt and Davis, whose fathers played for coach Tom Osborne during his tenure with Nebraska, grew up and carried on the tradition of competing in collegiate sports at a high level. Through their unique ties to the program and the seasoned storytelling of LePera, they uncovered the intimate details of a story that others had tried but failed to tell. Day By Day tells the story of the chase for a National Championship win that began in 1973 for Tom Osborne when he was named the head coach of the Nebraska Cornhuskers. It would take 21 years before the Huskers would reach the goal that the fans, the team, the state of Nebraska, and Coach Osborne lived and breathed. On January 1, 1995, Nebraska defeated Miami in the Orange Bowl 24-17 to fulfill Osborne's quest for a National Championship title. Day By Day: The Dynasty reveals the story of the following teams that would win two more National Championships under the guidance and leadership of Coach Osborne. In the 1995 season, the national media named them the most dominant college football team in history. Many of the athletes would go on to have successful NFL careers. Their coach would end his career being carried off the field after winning his third National Championship. Amid the Cornhuskers' first national championship triumph in over 20 years, a more significant struggle brewed off the field. Arrests began to pile up, and the national media's scrutiny of Coach Osborne and his program increased. In the wake of the turmoil surrounding the team, a selfless player found new potential in his talents, only to have his life tragically cut short days before the NFL draft. Going into the 1996 season, a young native Nebraskan quarterback would have to prove to himself and his teammates that he could lead a team singularly committed to winning. At the same time, a running back with exceptional talent would outrun the competition but couldn't evade the trauma of his past. At times, the team would find everyone turned against them, even their die-hard fan base. Unlikely leaders would step forward to unify the team against all others and strengthen their commitment to Coach Osborne and each other. Coach Tom Osborne, one of college football's most legendary coaches, led with a firm moral compass and a strong belief that it's not about winning a national championship but more about the journey to get there. He earned the respect of his players, fellow coaches, Nebraska fans, and college football fans. The Nebraska Cornhusker program defied all odds, winning three National Championships in four years and becoming one of the most celebrated and most controversial football teams of all time. There have been many dominant programs throughout the years in college football, but this team and its story are unlike any other. Featuring new interviews with Peyton and Archie Manning, coach Steve Spurrier, famous fans like Larry the Cable Guy, and numerous NCAA and NFL legends, Day By Day: The Dynasty is the culminating story of one of the most dominant, celebrated, and controversial football teams ever.
