Sosie Bacon (birthname: Sosie Ruth Bacon) can be viewed as The Reluctant Actor. Despite being the daughter of distinguished actors Kyra Sedgwick and Kevin Bacon, Sosie Bacon followed her parents’ deep resistance to her following them into the profession, particularly as a child actor. Nevertheless, Bacon was cast for her feature debut in a small role by father-director Kevin in his film, Loverboy (2005), and then convinced to join the cast of mother Kyra’s acclaimed police procedural TV show, The Closer in the 2009 season.
Only until she was an adult did Sosie Bacon truly pursue a professional acting career, with her most significant castings in television (recurring roles in Scream (2015-2016) and 13 Reasons Why (2017-2018)). Bacon had minor roles in minor features, such as Wishin’ and Hopin’ (2014); Ana Maria in Novela Land (2015) with Luis Guzman and Elizabeth Pena; Chronically Metropolitan (2016), with Mary-Louise Parker; and Off Season (2017).
Bacon portrayed Manson Family member and convicted killer Patricia Krenwinkel in Mary Harron’s stylish treatment of the Manson saga, Charlie Says (2018), which premiered at the Venice Film Festival and was released by IFC Films and co-starred Hannah Murray, Marianne Rendon, Suki Waterhouse, and Matt Smith. Netflix’s 2019 rom-com, The Last Summer, was Bacon’s very different next feature, with KJ Apa, Maia Mitchell, Jacob Latimore, and Gabrielle Anwar. Bacon’s first feature starring role was in the Paramount Pictures horror film written and directed by Parker Finn, Smile (2022), with Jessie T. Usher and Kyle Galiner.
Los Angeles-born Sosie Bacon was raised by her actor parents Kyra Sedgwick and Kevin Bacon. Her unusual first name comes from the name of art director, Sosie Hublitz, who worked on the 1992 television film, Miss Rose White, which was shot before Sosie’s birth. She has one older brother, actor-composer Travis Bacon.
Sosie Bacon’s fascinating family tree includes several actors and music performers, including uncle-actor Robert Sedgwick, uncle-composer Michael Bacon, cousin and Canadian-American music performer George Nozuka, cousin and Canadian-American actor Philip Nozuka, cousin and Canadian-American singer/songwriter/actor Justin Nozuka, as well as her late grandfather, the urban planner and architect Edmund Bacon, father of Kevin Bacon.
