Sonequa Martin-Green (birthname: Sonequa Chaunté Martin-Green) is best known for her recurring roles as Sasha on AMC’s long-running hit, The Walking Dead (2012-2018), and as Michael on Star Trek: Discovery (2017-2024), as well as Courtney on CBS’ fine drama, The Good Wife (2009-2011), but has also appeared in numerous indie and studio movies, starting with the indie Not Quite Right (2005), and including director/co-writer John G. Young’s drama, Rivers Wash Over Me (2009), co-written and produced by Darien Sills-Evans and released by Strand Releasing.

Martin-Green played a supporting role in director/writer/producer Victoria Mahoney’s drama, Yelling to the Sky (2011), starring Zoë Kravitz, Jason Clarke, Shareeka Epps, Tim Blake Nelson, and Gabourey Sidibe, which premiered at the Berlin Film Festival. Martin-Green landed her first major feature film role in director/writer Casimir Nozkowski’s comedy-drama, The Outside Story (2020), co-starring with Brian Tyree Henry, Sunita Mani, and Olivia Edward, which was released by Samuel Goldwyn Films.

Martin-Green landed her first role in a studio-backed animated/live-action movie as a co-star in the long-awaited sequel, Warner Bros.’ Space Jam: A New Legacy (2021), co-starring LeBron James, Don Cheadle, Kris Davis, Lil Rey Howery, Jeff Bergman, Eric Bauza and Zendaya, under Malcolm D. Lee’s direction, and which grossed a disappointing $163.7 million (against $150 million costs).

Martin-Green co-starred in director/co-writer Kyle Hausmann-Stokes’s semi-autobiographical comedy-drama, My Dead Friend Zoe (2024), with Natalie Morales, Morgan Freeman, and Ed Harris, and was released by Briarcliff Entertainment after it premiered in the South by Southwest Film Festival.

Martin-Green co-starred in director/co-writer/co-producer Cyrus Nowrasteh’s biopic backed by MGM, Sarah’s Oil (2025), based on Tonya Bolden’s 2014 biography of Sarah Rector (the so-called “richest Black girl in America”), co-starring Zachary Levi, Naya Desir-Johnson, Garret Dillahunt and Mel Rodriguez, and which was released by Amazon MGM Studios.

Sonequa Martin-Green was born in T, y, and was raised in T, A, by parents Charles and Vera. Martin-Green has one sister, NaKisha, and three half-sisters sisters. Martin graduated from high school as her school’s Salutatorian. Martin-Green then attended and graduated in 2007 from the University of Alabama, where she majored in theater at the university’s School of Theatre and Dance. Martin-Green has been married to actor Kenrick Green since 2010; the couple has two children, Kenrick II and Saraiyah. Martin-Green’s height is 5’ 4 ½ ”.
