Kevin Sorbo

Kevin Sorbo (birthname: Kevin David Sorbo) made his name as Hercules in a series of Universal Television-produced TV movies and then acted in his first feature film, the thriller Slaughter of the Innocents (1993), with Scott Glenn and Darlanne Fluegel written and directed by James Glickenhaus. Sorbo starred in the title role of the John Nicolella-directed fantasy for Universal Pictures, Kull the Conqueror (1997), with Tia Carrere, Harvey Fierstein, and Karina Lombard, delivering disastrous box office ($6 million gross against $35 million costs).

Sorbo starred in a string of direct-to-video movies (including a Walking Tall series) before joining the cast for the lampoon movie, Meet the Spartans (2008), co-starring Sean Maguire, Carmen Electra, and Ken Davitian, co-directed and co-written by Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer, and proving a financial success for 20^th Century Fox with $84 million returns and savaging reviews.

Sorbo began to act in and produce a string of Christian movies, with God’s Not Dead (2014), with Dean Cain and directed by Harold Cronk, proving to be a big hit earning over $64 million (on a $2 million budget) for producers Pure Fix Entertainment and distributor Freestyle Releasing.

Kevin Sorbo was the star/director/producer of the Christian drama, Let There Be Light (2017), with Sam Sorbo, Sean Hannity, Dionne Warwick, and Travis Tritt, and released by Atlas Distribution Company to a $7.2 million gross. Sorbo then joined the cast of Mira Sorvino, Austyn Johnson, and Peter Coyote in director/co-writer/producer Richard Correll’s Christian drama, The Girl Who Believes in Miracles (2021), returning to the paltry box office ($3.2 million).

Sorbo continued his long string of Christian movies as star-director of the Canadian-produced apocalyptic drama, Left Behind: Rise of the Antichrist (2023), a reboot of Left Behind (2014) featuring Neal McDonough, Bailey Chase, and Corbin Bernson, and grossing $4.2 million via 101 Films International. Sorbo co-starred with James Barrington, Edmund Kwan, Tupua Ainu’u, Eric Roberts, and Cuba Gooding Jr. in director/writer/producer Timothy A. Chey’s Christian drama, The Firing Squad (2024).

Kevin Sorbo joined the cast of the much-delayed Sean McNamara-directed biopic, Reagan (2024), starring Dennis Quaid, Penelope Ann Miller, Robert Davi, Lesley-Anne Down, Jon Voight, Mena Suvari, Kevin Dillon, Jon Voight, and Dan Lauria, filmed in 2020 but delayed until ShowBiz Direct’s 2024 release.
