Kate was born in Indianapolis, Indiana. As a student at Ball State University she studied Theatre and Film and graduated cum laude. She moved to Chicago in 2008 to pursue working as an actor. Her last name is a hyphenated tribute to her grandparents (Black) and her legal surname (Spence).
Primarily an actor, Kate also writes plays and screenplays. Her first film script, "Static Space," was produced in 2020 by Glass City Films and found great success in film festivals across the world.
