Jason Sussberg

Jason Sussberg is a Bay-Area based documentary filmmaker, focusing on cinema for science. Like Phil Ochs, he is a card carrying union member (Writers Guild of America), making art about about our modern times. Unlike Ochs, he can't carry a tune but instead carries a microphone. He has produced and directed several theatrical documentaries that have broadcast on PBS and streamed on Netflix, Apple TV, & Amazon. His titles include "The Immortalists" (2014), "Bill Nye: Science Guy" (2017), and "We Are As Gods" (2021). He has written and directed episodes for NOVA on PBS: "Your Brain: Who's in Control?" (Season 50) and "Secrets in Your Data" (Season 51). Jason most recently wrote and produced the film trilogy "Matter of Mind" (2023-2025) on PBS's Independent Lens.

Jason grew up in Grass Valley California and lives in the Bay Area. He graduated from UC Santa Cruz ('04) with a degree in Film & Digital Media, and earned MFA from Stanford in Documentary Film. He was a producer/editor for the San Francisco Giants and Golden State Warriors from 2005-2008, working in his preferred medium: Jumbotron.
