János Edelényi

    Janos Edelenyi graduated from the Academy of Films in Budapest as a director and cinematographer. Early in his career he was awarded prizes for Best Photography and Best Director at various national festivals. Despite his success, many of his works were banned, and they only premiered three decades later. He was forced into exile in 1976 and immigrated to Israel, where he lives ever since.

    In 1991, he co-wrote and produced the first Israeli-Hungarian coproduction: "The Long Shadow," directed by Oscar-winning photographer Vilmos Zsigmond and starring Michael York and Liv Ullmann. In 2009, he co-wrote and directed "Prima Primavera," a Hungarian-Bulgarian-Dutch-UK feature film that won multiple national and international awards.

    His most recent film, "The Carer," is a UK-Hungarian coproduction that he also co-wrote and directed. The film stars Brian Cox and premiered to critical acclaim at the Palm Springs International Film Festival receiving the Audience Prize. It had its European premiere at the Edinburgh Film Festival, where it was Best of the Fest. In Israel, the film debuted at the Haifa International Film Festival and became a runaway success in cinemas throughout the country.
